Pastoral Reflection: In the old covenant, the Mercy Seat of the inner sactum symbolized God's throne of mercy, guarded by two cherubim at each end. The New Testament Gospel of John 20:12 tells of two angels at the head and foot of where Jesus had lain in the tomb, reminiscent of that prefigured by the Mercy Seat (Exodus 25:18-19), in confirmation of the propitiatory work of the risen Savior, Lord Jesus Christ.
