Definition: Something about to happen.
Key Scriptures (hover for pop-up): Matthew 24:32-33; James 5:8-9; * Revelation 22:12
Theological Use: Still largely confused with the Second Coming of the Lord, the book of Revelation refers to the Lord's judgment coming via the Roman armies in 70AD which put a final end to the old covenant with the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. This passing away of "heaven and earth" (Matthew 24:35) was imminent in those "last days", declared by the Lord to happen within the then living generation (Matthew 24:34).
Pastoral Note: We all stand on the precipice of eternity and can pass on unexpectedly at any moment; such is the frailty of mortal flesh. But there is eternal life in Christ Jesus; and He shall come again, physically, to judge the living and the dead, to consummate the kingdom, after He has put an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet (1 Cor. 15:24-25). While imminence may not apply to the 2nd coming, it reminds believers to live watchfully and faithfully.

The reward spoken of here is not the reward given out on that last day.
This is a reward enforced with judgement on some and on deliverance from
the Great Tribulation on others.
