Shalom

Hebrew: שָׁלוֹם (Shalom) — peace, completeness, soundness, well-being

Key Scriptures (hover for pop-up): Genesis 43:27 Then he asked them about their well-being, and said, “Is your father well, the old man of whom you spoke? Is he still alive?” ; Exodus 4:18 So Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, “Please let me go and return to my brethren who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.” And Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.” ; Judges 19:20 And the old man said, “Peace be with you! However, let all your needs be my responsibility; only do not spend the night in the open square.” ; Joshua 9:15 So Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them to let them live; and the rulers of the congregation swore to them. ; 1 Kings 5:12 So the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as He had promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty together. ; Psalm 73:3, For I was envious of the boastful, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 85:10 Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed. ; Isaiah 48:18, Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea. 48:22, “There is no peace,” says the LORD, “for the wicked.” 57:19-21 “I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near,” says the LORD, “And I will heal him.” But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. “There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.”

Note: Shalom is used when one asks of or prays for the welfare of another; when one is in harmony or concord with another, when one seeks the good of a city or country. It may mean material prosperity or physical safety. But also it may mean spiritual well-being. Such peace is the associate of righteousness and truth, but not of wickedness. [New Bible Dictionary]
